Receiver Setup

Once you have received our Spontbox receiver, you will need to set it up with your TV using an internet connection in order to activate it.

The following steps will guide you with the setup and activation of your receiver:

  1. Connect a mouse to your receiver for setup and configuration.
  2. Plug in an HDMI cable to your receiver and TV in order to connect them.
  3. Connect an Ethernet cable for a wired connection. If you do not have an Ethernet connection, you will be automatically directed to configure Wi-Fi for a wireless connection. We recommend that you use a wired connection.
  4. Power up your receiver by plugging in the power adapter provided. Once your receiver is connected, you will be presented with our Setup screen on your TV.
  5. Scale Screen: Adjust the knob to resize the scale to fit your TV screen. The white border should be adjusted to cover all sides of your TV screen.
  6. Configure Internet Connection:
    1. Configure Ethernet: You can configure Ethernet when you want to use a fixed IP address. You can choose between using a dynamic IP (recommended) or a static IP.
    2. Configure Wi-Fi: If you do not have an Ethernet connection, your receiver will connect to Wi-Fi. Select the appropriate network and enter the password to connect. If you see “???” underneath the network name, we will not be able to connect to that Wi-Fi. It is important that you enter the correct password as we do not validate passwords.
  7. Activate Box: Each inactive receiver has a 16-digit PIN used for activation during setup. After connecting your receiver to a TV, all you need is the 16 digit PIN provided with your account to activate your service. Enter the name you want for your receiver with your activation key (16-digit PIN) and your location’s time zone. It is absolutely crucial that you choose the correct time zone to ensure that your receiver operates correctly.
    To get your activation key, sign in to our Spontbox website where you will find “Pending Activation” under the Boxes section.
  8. Click on “Done” to activate box. If your receiver has connected, your registration will be successful. If your receiver has not connected, the registration failure will be indicated.
  9. Once you have completed successful activation of your receiver, you should disconnect your mouse. Please note that when your receiver is in operation, you should not have a mouse connected to it.

Please note that if you would like to get back to the Setup screen after initial configuration, you can follow these steps:

  1. Unplug your receiver from the power source.
  2. Connect a mouse to your receiver.
  3. Power up your receiver by plugging in the power adapter.
  4. When you see a number countdown on your TV, double click your mouse during this time to go back to the Setup screen.

Website Account Log In

In order to manage your Spontbox receivers, pay invoices, or to create new users you must sign in to our website.

3 main sections are available once you sign in:

- Boxes
- Invoices
- Administration

By default, the Boxes section is selected once you sign in.

Boxes

In the Boxes section, you can manage and organize your receivers into groups. Groups allow you to configure multiple receivers with the same settings simultaneously.

Within each group, the total number of receivers will be shown beside the Group name in parentheses.

Alerts shows the number of receivers that are offline in parentheses.

Pending Activation

The Pending Activation group contains your purchased receivers that have not yet been activated. Click the “view” button to view the receivers in this group.

Each inactive receiver has a 16-digit PIN used for activation during setup.

Default Group

Activated receivers are automatically placed in the Default Group. To change the default group for your newly activated receiver, click the “default” button on your preferred group.

Viewing Boxes

Click the “view” button on a group to view the individual receivers within it. Each receiver is named upon activation. A green border around the box indicates that the receiver is online while a red border indicates that the receiver is offline.

Managing Boxes

Click the “edit” button to move individual receivers to a different group.

Managing Groups

Click “New Group” in the list of existing groups to create a new group. You will be asked to provide a group name and assign group properties for any receivers assigned to that group.

Click the “edit” button to manage the following group properties:

Daily Start: Receivers will show content every day only after the time selected.

Daily Stop: Receivers will show content every day only before the time selected.

Tickers: The text displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can add more tickers to display an assortment of messages.

You will be able to select content to be added from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Weather, and Ad posts.

Tickers

Text: Enter the message you want displayed at the bottom of the screen. The maximum ticker length is 100 characters.

Choose to display tickers according to your preferred schedule.

Show Always: The text will be displayed continuously on your screen whenever your receiver is operating.

Show Daily at: Choose to display your text daily at a specified time for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 24 hours. The default length of ticker display is 1 hour.

Show Scheduled on: Choose to display your text only on a specific date at a specified time for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 24 hours. The default length of ticker display is 1 hour.

Adding Content

There are options available to add content from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Weather, and Ad posts. Once you have selected the type of content to be added, your selection will appear underneath in order to be further edited.

Add YouTube

Choose to display video content from YouTube and the background that you want to appear on your TV channel.

Playlist URL: Add your own YouTube playlist.

Built-In: Choose from one of our built-in feeds.

Background:

Channel Banner: Use YouTube channel banner as background.

Built-In: Background will be randomly selected from our built-in set.

Image: Upload your own background image. Minimum size is 1280 by 720 px.

Add Facebook

Choose to display video or image content from Facebook and the background that you want to appear on your TV channel.

Playlist URL: Add your own Facebook feed.

Built-In: Choose from one of our built-in feeds.

Time Frame: Only content published within given time frame will be displayed. Choose to display posts published within 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month.

Videos: Videos will be played if it meets given criteria. You can opt out of showing videos from your Facebook page or you can allow all current videos to play. You can also choose to play videos that are within 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes long.

Duration: Specifies how long one item will be displayed. You can select options to display image content for 10, 20, or 30 seconds.

Background:

Page Cover: Use Facebook page cover as background.

Built-In: Background will be randomly selected from our built-in set.

Image: Upload your own background image. Minimum size is 1280 by 720 px.

Add Weather

Choose to display weather to blend it with your mix of content and the background that you want to appear on your TV channel.

Interval: Specifies how often item will be displayed. You can choose to show items every 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.

City: Start typing the city name and select from a list of suggestions.

Background:

Built-In: Background will be randomly selected from our built-in set.

Image: Upload your own background image. Minimum size is 1280 by 720 px.

Add Ad Post

Choose to display ad posts to show images and text and the background that you want to appear on your TV channel.

Interval: Specifies how often item will be displayed. Choose from an interval of 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.

Duration: Specifies how long one item will be displayed. You can select the duration of the item to last for 10, 20, or 30 seconds.

Image: An optional image. If provided it will be displayed in the middle of the screen. Minimum size is 200 by 200 px.

Text: An optional text. If provided it will be displayed in the middle of the screen. Up to 500 characters.

Title/ Page Name: An optional title. If provided it will be shown on the top of the screen.

Sound:

Built-In: Sound will be randomly selected from our built-in set.

File: Upload your own sound file. Only MP3 files are allowed.

Background:

Built-In: Background will be randomly selected from our built-in set

Image: Upload your own background image. Minimum size is 1280 by 720 px.

Invoices

This section allows you to manage your orders. A red invoice border indicates an unpaid invoice.

Click the “view” button to view the invoice.

Click the PayPal button to pay your invoice.

If for any reason you decide to cancel an order, click the “delete” button to remove the invoice from your list.

Administration

Add or remove administrators from your account and edit company contact and billing info.

Your company name and contact info will be applied to future invoices. Billing information for existing invoices cannot be changed.

Users

Administrator permissions allow you to:

- View user actions log
- Edit user information
- Delete user
